French food giant Danone will invest 230 million zloty (€50 million) to create a plant producing medical nutrition products in the southern Polish city of Opole.

The investment will expand a facility already run by the firm to allow it to produce food for people with special dietary needs. The move comes after Danone’s acquisition of Polish medical nutrition company Promedica earlier this year.

Approximately 800 people work in the already operating plant. The new facility, which is expected to be operational in early 2025, will create an additional 50 jobs.

“This investment could have been located in Brazil or Indonesia, but Opole was chosen,” said Artur Ludwiczak, managing director at Nutricia, a Danone brand that specialises in therapeutic food and medical nutrition.

Ludwiczak announced the investment alongside the Polish development minister Waldemar Buda and the CEO of Danone Group Poland CEO, Paweł Piątek.

In recent years, Poland has seen major investments by a number of international companies, including Mercedes-Benz spending over €1 billion on an electric-only van plant, new technology hubs being created by Volvo and Visa, as well as development centres by Google and Microsoft.
