Poland has been the main destination for refugees from Ukraine, with almost 2.7 million people crossing its border since Russia’s invasion.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss also thanked Poland for “supporting those who have fled this appalling war”.
“We want Ukrainians to be able to stand on their own two feet here in Poland,” says a minister.
The Polish city is hosting up to 150,000 refugees from Ukraine, causing its population to grow almost 20% in the space of a month.
The Polish and German interior ministers have jointly proposed a system under which the EU would grant €1,000 for each refugee.

A survey shows strongly positive views towards Poland’s acceptance of refugees among people in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the US.
The US president also praised the Polish people for “opening their hearts and their homes” to Ukrainian refugees.
