The Polish city is hosting up to 150,000 refugees from Ukraine, causing its population to grow almost 20% in the space of a month.
The Polish and German interior ministers have jointly proposed a system under which the EU would grant €1,000 for each refugee.
“They gave us a home, food, clothes. We are happy that at least we can say thank you for it.”
A survey shows strongly positive views towards Poland’s acceptance of refugees among people in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the US.
