A pair of goats have caused a commotion in a small Polish town, where they were spotted trying to enter the library before heading to a church and finally standing patiently at a bus stop. They were then picked up by local police, who found that their owner was too drunk to be allowed to take back the animals.

The goats’ big day out took place on Tuesday this week in Rozprza, a town of 1,700 in central Poland, and came to national attention after images of their adventures went viral.

“The horned animals were standing in the bus shelter and looked as if they were waiting for a bus,” said police spokeswoman Izabela Gajewska. Officers had attended the scene after receiving a call reporting the unusual sight. They later released photographs from their intervention.

A resident of the town also shared images and a description of the goats’ escapades on Facebook. “Walking politely on the streets, they first entered the municipal library but unfortunately the door was still closed,” read the post, adding that the animals then went to a furniture store and a lottery sales point.

“I guess they got the numbers wrong, so they continued on their way where they met a lady and went with her to a nearby church,” it continued. “From there they apparently went to the bank and a nail salon.”

“Finally they went to the nearby bus stop,” concluded the post, which noted that the police then arrived and were finally able to remove the goats with the help of some men from a bus that had arrived at the stop.

The adventure did not end there, however. Gajewska revealed that, with the help of local authorities, they managed to identify the owner of the goats. But “It turned out that he was so drunk that his condition prevented him from taking care of animals”, she explained.

That resulted in the goats being taken into the care of local government officials. Their owner could now face a fine and community service if found guilty of not properly caring for his animals.
