Independent English-language media in Central and Eastern Europe
Notes from Poland is pleased to announce that, as part of a project funded by the National Endowment for Democracy, we have created a network of independent media outlets that report on the Central and Eastern Europe region in English. The project will build links between our organisations, as well as support them in reporting on issues relating to democracy, the rule of law, civil society, human rights and media freedom in the region. Our shared aim is to help the world understand the important events taking place in a region that receives limited attention in international media. Our partners in the project are:
- Kafkadesk
- Insight Hungary
- Internews Ukraine
- New Eastern Europe
- Reporting Democracy (run by the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network)
- Transitions,
- Ukraine World
- Vsquare (run by Fundacja Reporterów)

We welcome other expressions of interest at [email protected]. The first sets of articles published as part of the project – on the topics of media freedom and LGBT rights – have already appeared, and can be found below. Further reports on these and other issues facing the region will appear regularly.
