President Andrzej Duda yesterday “appealed to the international community to help Poland” deal with the refugee crisis.
The government has simplified the procedure for Ukrainian medics to start working in Poland and is offering courses in medical Polish.
“Neither the city nor the government can now cope with the wave of refugees from Ukraine,” says Warsaw’s mayor.
“Our priority is to ensure that children in Polish schools can continue their education undisturbed,” says the education minister.
People without Ukrainian citizenship have reported difficulties accessing various forms of support being offered in Poland.

“I believe that they will not remain unpunished and the perpetrators will be held responsible by international tribunals,” said Andrzej Duda.
Catholic parishes and other religious organisations in Poland have joined efforts to house, feed and in other ways support Ukrainian refugees.
Poland’s biggest insurer is also offering free car insurance to Ukrainians.
The Polish authorities have also readied a medical train that can transport the wounded from the border.
“We will show our Ukrainian brothers solidarity and support” during “these difficult times”, says Poland’s interior minister.
The restrictions – which the media and NGOs from entering the border area without special permission – have been in place since September.
